Ani Assatourian is a Los Angeles based abstract artist whose work explores the translation of scent into visual form. Her practice is rooted in a cross sensory approach to painting, shaped by early professional training in the fragrance industry. In her early twenties, she was introduced to the world of perfumery through Firmenich, where she was trained in olfactive analysis, learning to understand scent through structure, evolution, and emotional resonance. Over time, this sensory discipline became the foundation of her artistic language.
Assatourian’s work begins with a fundamental question: If a scent were a painting, what would it look like? Drawing from memory, intuition, and sensory perception, she transforms the invisible qualities of fragrance into layered compositions of color, texture, and movement. Each painting functions as a visual interpretation of scent, capturing its atmosphere, rhythm, and emotional depth rather than its literal form.
Moving fluidly between sensory worlds, Assatourian invites viewers to experience painting beyond sight alone. Her work bridges fragrance, memory, and abstraction, offering a contemporary perspective on how emotion and perception can be translated across senses.
